Common questions

Overtime Pay & Tax Calculator FAQs

Is overtime taxed at a higher rate?

Overtime is generally ordinary wage income. Your withholding can look different depending on how payroll processes it, but the calculation of final tax uses your overall tax situation.

What is time-and-a-half?

It means 1.5 times the regular rate. Under the FLSA, covered non-exempt employees generally receive at least this rate for hours over 40 in a workweek.

Why is my paycheck estimate different?

Payroll withholding can use W-4 information, pay-period wages, state and local rules, benefits and statutory wage caps. Use this as a scenario estimate.
